I've written a lot about Marvel's new Ultimate Universe , but as it nears its untimely end, I've become enamored with DC's Absolute series. Over at my blue child, Halftone Magazine , I ranked the 6 titles in the first year of the line, and I had such a good time reading that I've been itching to write about the Absolute universe once m0re. There are many YouTube videos and Reddit threads tackling what certain characters would look like with the Absolute treatment, but more th

Welcome to That Good, where I take a closer look at critically acclaimed work to determine if its really "That Good." By far the most recent subject we've tackled on this program is what we'll be talking about today: Dispatch . Released in October of 2025, it took the gaming world by storm and has cemented itself already as something of a modern classic. As someone who loves a good choice-based game as well as any and all superhero media, I felt that that this was match made

We survived. The end of this horrid year is nearly upon us, but you know how much I love to look back before we go forward. Carrying on this yearly tradition of mine, we'll be doing the Top Whatevers of 2025, a catch-all retrospective where I make some lists regarding my favorite things of the year. 2025 wasn't as bountiful as 2024, but we'll make do. Unless you're really invested in my opinions on these things, take this as a list of recommendations on what to seek out (or a

We're back, baby. Its been a minute since I did one of these, but the rules are easy to follow. I rapid-fire cover some things I enjoyed over a period of time. This past summer I did a log like this about every month, but over this Fall (in which I was very busy) I decided to hold off and do one of these over the whole season. I'm now calling these "Media Diet" so I have a name for it and will be doing them until I get bored of it. Let's not tarry. The Running Man (1884) + (1

I will never financially recover from this August. Seriously. I know I said that last month, but I fear I mean it this time. Once again,...

Welcome back to That Good, a series where I, a self-described hopeless pedantic, take a closer look at critically acclaimed work...

I will never financially recover from this July. July was a busy month for me. The Summer slowed down to a crawl and every week felt like...

I have quite literally just walked out seeing James Gunn's Superman , and now that I'm back, I've gotta empty out every single thought in...

I'm far from the first person to explore this thought experiment. There's plenty of videos and fan art online discussing what DC equivalent to a Marvel Rivals would be like, and with my middling graphic design expertise and general familiarity with Detective Comics Comics, I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring. First off, I'm neither an expert in DC lore nor video game design. I'm more more familiar with the former than the latter, as the only real hero shooter I've played

I like to think I'm a man who knows my trinkets from my doodads. Recently, I ranked every Mission: Impossible film over at Halftone , and...

Yeah, I just watched Andor Season 2, how could you tell? Isn't it crazy that this show is real? Like, I didn't think Disney had it in...

Suicidal Squad Recently, I wrote about Thunderbolts* for Halftone Magazine , but I didn't get to cover everything I wanted to there....

I really wasn't going to write about Rivals again so soon, but so much has happened in the first few weeks of the second season's launch...

So, here's the Thing... Since I last wrote about Marvel Rivals, is has devoured even more of my time. At the time of writing this, season...

Gang, I gotta be honest—its been a pretty shit year so far. 2025 started off pretty bad for me personally, and just when I thought I was...

Hey, gang. Its been a minute I last spent a concerning amount of time discussing the internet's (least) favorite JRPG, but I'm back to...

2024 was a big year for pop culture, but personally, I'm tired of "the discourse." On the last day of 2024 (which was a pretty good year for me, all things considered) I'm just gonna shut up and drive. Below will be lists of my favorite, or least favorite, things this year. I'm talking movies, songs, albums, etc., anything pop culture related. For the most part, these will simply be lists, but I might pop in with some elaboration on occasion. If you disagree with a placement

On Christmas Day (or night, rather), I finished the 5th, and most recent, title in George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series. A Dance with Dragons was one of the best reading experiences I've ever had. Sure, it took a few hundred pages to really get going, but once it did, it proved to be an exciting, engaging read that, compared to longer books in this series, never failed to keep me on the line. Now that I've finished, I can now judge every POV character in the s

Welcome to That Good, a series where I tackle things that the general public have deemed good and hash out my thoughts about it. This time, we're covering the very thing that inspired this series: Persona 5 — specifically, the Royal re-release. P5 is one of those games of undeniable quality but still has a large regiment of detractors waiting to quote retweet you into oblivion whenever you express praise for it. Its got flaws, but Persona 5 is the complete package. For thi

Earlier this week, I wrote an article/review on Halftone about Marvel Rivals . This post is going to cover some things I didn't have the...
